Child Visas are permanent visas designed for permanent stays in Australia by biological children of permanent visa holders or Australian citizens who are truly dependent on their parents for their daily needs. They are often availed by former partner visa applicants who now have their Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801 or Subclass 100).
Dependent Child VIsas are also for dependent children of partner visa holders, but are for those who are holding Subclass 309 Offshore Partner Visas or Subclass 820 Onshore Partner Visas. The child also needs to be truly dependent on their biological parent who holds one of those two visas. They arrive in Australia and may be then added to their parents application for a Permanent Partner Visa (Subclass 801 or Subclass 100).
Important Points
- Child must be wholly or substantially dependent on the parent (and/or the sponsor of the parent’s partner visa) for their family needs
- They must not be engaged, married or in a de facto relationship
- They must not be employed
- The Child Visa applicant must be in full-time study. The Dependent Child Visa applicant ideally should be studying.
- They should still be living in the family home
