Partner Visas are for those who are in committed relationships with Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents and intend spending the rest of their lives together. These visas are for committed couples who are either married, intend to marry very soon, or are in genuine established de facto relationships. These are NOT for those couples who are not ready for commitment yet.      

Prospective Marriage Visas (aka Fiancee Visas) are lodged OUTSIDE Australia, which means visa applicant waits in their country of usual residence for the visa to be granted. When the visa is granted she gets to travel to Australia, get married to the sponsor within 12 months of the visa grant, and remain. They must:

1. Enter Australia within 12 months of the visa grant
2. Marry the sponsor within 12 months of the visa grant
3. Apply for a (simplified) Onshore Partner Visa within 12 months of the visa grant
